This Finding explains how hand counting captures voter intent more accurately than machines.
Myth: The Hand Counted Verification of Machine Results Match Exactly Every Single Time
The statement that election results tabulated by machines exactly match the post-election hand counted verification every single time is repeated over and over. It is a myth. Start with the comment below from a former president of a clerk association.
“Our association sent out a survey about the 5% hand count for the November 2022 election and the results showed that: The bipartisan team’s count is often not accurate on the first try. Some teams recounted 8 times to get an accurate count. On the other hand, the results of the tabulator were correct the first time.”
Recounted 8 times to get an accurate count?
That means hand-counting over and over until the humans tally the ballots the way the machine counted them. Why not conduct a forensic audit of the voting equipment to determine if there are miscounts of the votes?
Every vote marked in the examples below (taken from the Missouri Secretary of State’s website) is a valid vote. Are the machines tabulating those votes?
